Lynn "Jumbo" Carl Lawrenz

July 11, 1937 ~ May 17, 2023 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Lynn "Jumbo" Carl Lawrenz, 85, of Algoma, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay after a short illness.

He was born July 11, 1937, in Algoma to Carl and Viola (Bathke) Lawrenz. As a young boy his family moved to Loyal, WI where he grew up and graduated from the Loyal High School. Lynn then attended and graduated from UW Stout as a teacher for Industrial Arts.

Lynn married Donna Lou Darton on June 4, 1960 in Loyal, WI.

He was hired by Algoma High School and taught for 20 years as the Industrial Arts Teacher. Lynn had the school board approval to build homes across from the high school with all of his students. They built a number of homes to be sold.

Lynn was a part-time driver's education instructor, was a referee for sports activities, and was a part time bus driver.

While teaching, Lynn and Donna Lou owned and operated Jumbo's Drive-In in Algoma for many years, then they took over Jumbo's Drive-In from Lynn's parents and ran it for a few more years.

After Lynn retired in 1980, he started his own business called A & E Building Systems. His designs and construction can be seen all throughout Algoma.

Lynn is survived by his wife, Donna Lou of 62 years, daughters, Lychelle Lawrenz, Chicago, IL; and Sam (Mark) Prokash, Algoma; three grandchildren, Justin (Christine) Putnam, Hunter (Julia) Prokash, and Booker Prokash; four great-grandchildren, Landon Putnam, and Chelsey, Austin and Kevin Wautelet; great-great-granddaughter, Elaine Ihlenfeldt; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Viola; brother, Dr. Lon Lawrenz; in-laws, Hugh and Irene Darton; sister-in-law, Caryl Jean (Merlin) Bender; and nephew, Dennis Bender.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Lynn "Jumbo" Lawrenz on Sunday May 21, 2023, at the Schinderle Funeral Home, Algoma, from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM.
