Leon Dart Obituary

Leon G. Dart, 80, died on May 28th, 2023, surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 22, 1942, in Algoma, WI to the late Elmer and Esther (Corroy) Dart, becoming their second of four children.  Leon grew up in Algoma where he learned valuable life skills working on the family farm.  He attended St. Mary’s grade school and graduated from Algoma High School in 1961.  He entered the workforce right out of high school holding various jobs, until he started his long career at Bay Shipbuilding of 28 years.

Leon was married and raised two sons with whom he shared his passion for tinkering with and riding snowmobiles.  He was a jack-of-all-trades working on small engines, tractors, and other equipment whenever someone needed his help.  He enjoyed being a member and large supporter of his son’s racing team, playing cards, shooting pool, and golfing.  As a longtime member of the Algoma Snowriders Club, he looked forward to grooming trails along with repairing those same machines.

He is survived by his sons, Terry (Mary) and Todd (Stacey) and grandchildren Courtney (Matt) Schmidt, Austen (friend Annie Kinnard), Corrina (Alec) Wery, Cassie (friend Andy Schmidt), great-grandchild Kolson Wery, and soon to arrive Baby Schmidt.  He is further survived by sister Sue Christensen, sister-in-law Elaine Dart, special friend Jane Salat, and many nieces and nephews.  Leon will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.

He is preceded in death by parents Elmer and Esther, brother Ervin, sister Sherry (Lester) Tebon, and brother-in-law Byron Christensen.
Per Leon’s wishes there will be no visitation.

The family thanks Unity Hospice, Helping Hearts Assisted Living, the Bellin Health team, and Laurie Schinderle for their past support and aid during this time of need.
