Jeanette Dier Obituary

Jeanette Marie Dier, 93, peacefully passed away at home early Sunday (July 24) morning.  She was born August 26, 1928, the daughter of Matt Holub and Laura (Bero, Ronsman) Holub.   She grew up on the family farm and attended Silver Creek School. She graduated from Algoma High School in 1946 and worked as a grocery store clerk and later as a telephone operator.    She married Mahlon Dier on September 11, 1948 at St. Mary Church in Algoma.
Jeanette loved her entire family unconditionally. As mother of eight children, a grandmother to 19, and great-grandmother to 20, she welcomed each new arrival to the family with love, joy, and lots of wet kisses. Jeanette was a wonderful cook and baker, and no one who visited her house went away hungry. Mornings at home started with the sound of the radio (WDOR) and the scent of baking. One of her favorite things to do was teach her children and grandchildren how to cook and sew. Because of her love for preparing food, three editions of the “Dier Family Cookbook” were published, with many of her recipes in it. However, recreating a recipe was difficult, because she was always substituting for what was in the house!
Jeanette taught her family to play cards and dominoes, and enjoyed many games with them, frequently winning the pot! Jeanette was a fierce sheepshead player, and enjoyed playing in card clubs with her many friends through the years.
Jeanette had a strong devotion to our Mother Mary. She was a member of the Rosary Society at St Mary Algoma and prayed the Rosary daily. Jeanette's response to any concern her family brought to her started with "You must pray…” and a visit ended with “God Love You” instead of good-bye.  Jeanette supported the growth of Forestville Builders, working alongside her husband as a bookkeeper and receptionist. After retirement, Mahlon and Jeanette traveled to Florida, and Gulf Shores, Alabama, throughout the Midwest and to Germany. In her later years, Jeanette enjoyed spending time with Mahlon, her family and wonderful caregivers at the home she loved.
Jeanette is survived by her husband, Mahlon, her eight children, Mary (Roger) Nelson, Laura (Gary) Krzysiak, Kristine (Floyd) Dauenhauer, Peggy Lynn, Tom (Laurie) Dier, Jacqueline (Kurt Bullard) Toepfer, Jeffrey (Alana) Dier, and Michelle (Daniel) Bastain.
