Barbara Jean (Boge) Martin

     Barbara Jean (Boge) Martin (Barb) passed away at home after a long illness on Monday, August 22, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

     Barb was born October 11, 1940, in Ottawa, Illinois, to David and Virginia (Riskadahl) Boge.  

     She attended high school in Seneca, IL., going on to earn a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Northern Illinois University and a Masters in Reading from George Williams College.  She taught elementary school in St. Charles, IL., for years and was a Reading Specialist for the Elgin School System in Elgin, IL.  

     Barb married Keith Martin November 21, 1984, in Geneva, IL., and he preceded her in death, September 22, 2012.

     Barb is survived by her sister Carol (Boge) Kreml; son Jon (Tammy) Lifto, daughter Johanna Lifto-Hooks (Ron Lyon); five grandchildren Brandon Lifto, Jacob Lifto, Abigail Lifto, Alyssa Hooks and Emily Hooks; one great granddaughter Sophie Lifto and several nieces and nephews.  

     She was further preceded in death by her parents, David and Virginia.

     At Barb's request there will be no public funeral service, but there will be a gathering at her home on Saturday, September 10, 2022, for friends and family.  

     In Barb's words, "When I come to the end of the road, and the sun sets for me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room.  Why cry for a soul set free?".
