Alice Schmidt Obituary

Alice M. Schmidt, 90, Algoma, was called home by the Lord, himself, after granting her an earthly life filled with joys and sorrows, all of which were lived under His gracious care and guidance.

Alice was born February 6, 1932, in Maplewood to the late Rudolph and Myrtle (Maedke) Schmidt.  Alice was baptized February 14, 1932, at Emanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Kolberg and was confirmed April 18, 1943, also at Kolberg. She attended Kolberg and Forestville Victory Grade Schools, graduating from the Algoma High School in 1949.  She then attended Milwaukee Teacher's College.

After her return to Algoma, she worked at the Algoma Net Company prior to, and after her marriage to Frank Schmidt in 1951.  They were blessed with a son, Stephen and a daughter, Laurel.  After her children attended school full time, she worked at Beach's Gift Shop, Montgomery Ward Catalog Store and retired from Community State Bank in 1992 after 25 years of service.

Alice was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church since 1951.  She enjoyed being on her high school reunion committee, collecting recipe books, sewing, artistic projects, tending her flowers, arranging floral bouquets, walking, swimming, and traveling on bus tours.

She is survived by her son Stephen (Maxine) Schmidt, daughter Laurel (Roland) Marshall, brother-in-law Jim Kiefer, foster sister-in-law Minette Wells, brothers-in-law Tom (Maxine) Schmidt and David (Mary) Schmidt, many nieces and nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, parents, brother Roger Maedke, sister Verna Kiefer, foster parents Wallace and Esther Wells and foster brothers Donald and Richard Wells.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at the Schinderle Funeral Home, Algoma for Alice on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, from 10 AM until the time of services at 11 AM with Rev. Joel McKenney officiating.  Burial of the cremated remains will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery

 Alice liked the poem Afterglow:

I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one.

I would like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.

I would like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,

of happy times, laughing times and bright and sunny days.

I would like the tears of those who grieve

to dry before the sun,

of happy memories that I leave when life is done.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or School.
