Willis Postma Obituary

Willis Charles Postma, 86, Algoma, died Sunday March 18, 2012 after a brief battle with cancer at the Algoma Long Term Care Unit. He was born November 14, 1925 in Manlius, N.Y. to Teak Jacob and Pearl (Stewart ) Postma. As a young man of many natural talents, he started working with his father on the family farm in Manlius and developing a life long love of woodworking which he gifted to many family and friends, including finally St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Algoma. His early work life started in Manlius at Stone Machinery after service to his country with the Merchant Marines. He then moved to Chicago area with his family where he continued to work in the machine tool industry for 35 years as a manufacturer's representative. He was a self made man, a combination design and manufacturers engineer without the academic degrees. A resident of Algoma since 1988 where he and his wife Doris came to retire. Will was active in the civic development of the Main Street project and in the planning and building of the lakeside Boardwalk and Community Center. He is survived by his son Charles, Glenview, IL; one daughter Martha (Charles) Rennaw, Orange Vale, CA; one sister Grace (William) Snow; special nieces and nephews and Charlotte Hackman. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris of 40 years, his parents, one brother Carl C. Postma, his first wife Ursula, the mother of his children. Will will be remembered fondly by his friends and neighbors in the Algoma / Green Bay area for his helping hands and volunteerism, and also in the suburban Chicago area where he lived for more that 25 years. Family and friends may call at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Algoma from 9 am Friday, March 23, 2012 until the time of services at 10:30 am with Rev. John Moll officiating. Burial will take place later at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Horicon, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Willis Charles Postma.
