Ruth M. Dettmann, 95, Algoma, went home to be with her Lord Jesus on Aug. 27, 2012 and leaves to mourn seven children Marjorie, Janice, David, Shirley, Alan, Randall and John with their spouses, 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She passed away at Bay Road Place in Algoma after a short stay there. Ruth was living in her home independently until January 2012 when she began to need intensive care from her family and home health. She moved to Bay Road Place in May of this year. She was born November 29, 1916 in Algoma to Edward and Bertha (Duerst) Fenske. Ruth graduated from Pleasant Hill Grade School and helped her dad on the farm. She was employed at the Algoma Net Co. until she married Elrey Dettmann on September 27, 1936 and raised their eight children on the farm in Rankin, Wis. Ruth was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Rankin and was actively involved in LWML and Ladies Aid holding offices in each. Enjoyed Bible Studies, quilting for World Relief, bowling, golfing, line dancing. She frequently got together with friends for birthday parties, cards, bingo and eating at the Algoma meal site with friends. She loved to travel and enjoyed several cruises, including the Panama Canal and Alaska. Ruth went white water rating at the age of 85 in Alaska. She loved going to sporting events of her children and grandchildren and was a great fan of the Wisconsin Badgers. Ruth is survived by her children Marjorie, Claremont, FL; Janice, DePere; David, Green Bay; Shirley, Rankin; Alan, Rankin: Randall, Algoma; and John, Madison; 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elrey on September 25, 1993, one son Robert who was killed in a car accident at age 19 in March of 1973, two brothers and one sister. Friends may call at St. John's Lutheran Church in Rankin from 9 am Wednesday, August 29, 2012 until the time of services at 11 am with Rev. Thomas Zehnder officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to St. John's Lutheran Church in memory of Ruth. The SCHINDERLE FUNERAL HOME, Algoma assisted the family with arrangements.
