Roy Lehnert

Roy A. Lehnert, 82, Algoma, died Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the Golden Living Center, Sturgeon Bay. He was born Jan 6, 1929 in Milwaukee to Peter and Otilla (Haack) Lehnert. Roy's family moved to the Algoma area where he attended the Algoma High School. He entered the US Army July 5, 1946 where he finished his 12th year of high school. Roy was shipped overseas and was stationed in Seoul, Korea for 14 months. Roy was honorable discharged Dec. 8, 1947. He was called back during the Korean War in 1951 and was shipped to France to open up a supply air base under the NATO Command. After returning back from France, Roy married Janice Lardo May 15, 1954 at St. Mary Rectory, Algoma. He started the Milwaukee Shoe Co. in Sturgeon Bay from 1957 - 1963. Then he worked at the US Plywood from 1963-1991 with it closing in 1976 and then restarting as the Algoma Hardwoods retiring in 1991. Roy enjoyed fishing, reading, biking, walking, shopping and family vacations. He is survived by his wife Janice, two daughter Jilaine Lehnert, Algoma and Ann Lehnert, Green Bay; one sister Carol Cihlar, Sturgeon Bay, nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by two brothers James and Warren Lehnert; brothers-in-law Gerald Olson, William Pinchart and Joseph Cihlar; one neice Kathy Olson and one nephew Chuck Olson. Family and friends may call at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 406 4th St., Algoma from 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2011 until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Roy Beyer officiating.
