Roland Laven

Roland Laven, 84, Algoma, formerly of Milwaukee, died very unexpectedly December 25, 2013, while visiting his daughter in Sheboygan. He was born October 27, 1929 in Milwaukee to Otto and Rose (Meyer) Laven. Roland married Bertha Gottfried in Milwaukee on September 22, 1951. Roland was the loving husband of Bertha (nee Gottfried) for 62 years. He was the loving father of Christine Laird (the late Jerry), Wendy (Mike) Brewer and Brenda (Larry) Roberts. Proud grandpa of Jonathan, Angela, Bridget, Kelly, Stephanie, Derek , Jason and Petrea. He is further survived by great grandchildren, brothers, special friend and nephew Roger (Julie) LaVen, other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Roland was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Jerry Laird, four brothers and two sisters. Roland retired in 1986 as a long time truck driver. Then in February of 1987 the couple moved to their present home in the Algoma area. He enjoyed flowers and gardening, traveling, watching and feeding the birds. He was a member of the Local Teamster Union 200 and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Algoma. Family and friends may call at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Algoma Friday, January 3, 2014 from 9 AM until services at 11 AM with Rev. Tom Moldenhauer officiating. Then there will be a service in Milwaukee on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church at 68th and Forest Home. Visitation from 9 AM until the time of services at 11 AM with burial in the church cemetery to follow. The SCHINDERLE FUNERAL HOME, Algoma, assisted the family with arrangements.
