Roland Holtz

Roland L. Holtz, 81, Algoma, died peacefully Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Golden Living - Dorchester Nursing Home, Sturgeon Bay with his family all around him. He was born August 12, 1930 in Manitowoc to Roland and Mae (Dalebroux) Holtz. Roland's family moved to Algoma where he graduated from the Algoma High School in 1948. He attended two years at Marquette University before joining the U.S. Air Force servicng from 1951 to 1955. Before his discharge from the Air Force he married Shirley Kostichka on January 31, 1954 in Algoma. After his discharge he returned to Marquette University for two more years to get his Business Administration Degree. He worked for many years for Schlitz Brown Bottle Brewery Co. in Milwaukee. The couple lived in Milwaukee for three years, before moving to Algoma in 1957. The couple owned and operated the Algoma Laudry Mat for many years. Roland originated the 'Polka Dots Band' in the late forty's and early fifty's. Roland never missed a sporting event that his children were involved in through their school years. He was an avid Packer Fan, and he enjoyed golfing, hunting out west in Wyoming and in Northern Wisconsin. Roland is survived by his caregiver and best friend Shirley, his four children, Steve, Algoma; Kurt (Peggy), Green Bay; Ann (Steve) Marra, Green Bay and Kris (Kelly), Green Bay; eight grandchildren Shaina, Mykala and Aadyn Holtz; Lauren and Kaleb Holtz; Kristin and A.J. Marra; and Kai Holtz, one sister Diane (Blackie) Delwiche, Sturgeon Bay; one Godchild, Julie Ray, Algoma; two sisters-in-law Lucille Graf, Algoma and Carol Densow, Theinsville; and one brother-in-law Robert (Kathy) Kostichka, St. Paul, MN. Roland was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law Jake and Lucy Kostichka, one sister-in-law Ruth (Francis) Bader and two brothers-in-law John Graf and Charles Densow. Friends may call at the SCHINDERLE FUNERAL HOME, Algoma from 3 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 until the time of services at 7 p.m. with Rev. Bill Swichtenberg officiating.
