Richard 'Dick' Zimmerman, 64, Algoma, died peacefully Sunday afternoon, September 21, 2014, with family at his side. He was born December 3, 1949 in Kewaunee to Walter and Alice (Daul) Zimmerman. He graduated from the Algoma High School in 1968. As a welder, Dick began his career in the shipyards. He carried that trait his entire life, eventually retiring as a proud Boilermaker.On November 2nd, 1968 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, he married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Gaedtke. On Dick's 20th birthday, they gave birth to their first son, Richard Zimmerman Jr. This shared birthday was a bond the two would cherish their entire lives. It was typical for the father / son duo to have (4) day birthday parties. Two years later, the family was complete with their second son, Corie. Dick's family enjoyed the outdoors as they spent much of their time camping, boating, and fishing. Family trips to Shawano, Crandon, and Bay Shore Park molded the family, creating a lifetime of memories. Late in life, Dick enjoyed spending time at 'The Land'. His enthusiastic passion for the property that will be treasured forever. More than anything, Dick enjoyed spending time with his seven grandchildren. His eyes lit up every time he was around them. From build-a-duck to deer camp, Papa made it a point to make everyone of his grandchildren feel special. His family first attitude will carry on always!Dick was preceded in death by his father, Walter Zimmerman, father-in-law Henry Clark, brother-in-law Pat Schneider and niece, Becky Marquardt.Hi is survived by his wife, Nancy, Algoma; two sons Dick Jr. (Renee) Zimmerman, Algoma; Corie (Jami) Zimmerman, Algoma; seven grandchildren, Gabby, Jake, Sydney, Carter, Ryley, Macie and Katie, Algoma, his mother Alice Zimmerman, Pulaski; mother-in-law Delores Clark, Algoma; two brothers Dave (Holly) Zimmerman, Green Bay; Jim (Chris) Zimmerman, Pulaski; four sisters, Jane (Ron) Granius, Algoma; Mary (Robert) Harris, Algoma; Ann Below, Green Bay and Lynn (Mark) Place, Pulaski. Richard's family would like to thank the entire staff at Bellin Hospital and Kewaunee Care Center for their outstanding care and support over the last two months. Special thanks go to Kari, Tony, Tracie and Jean. Your passion and sincerity are greatly appreciated.Family and friends may call at the SCHINDERLE FUNERAL HOME, Algoma from 4 - 8 p.m., Wednesday, September 24, 2014 and after 9 am, Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Algoma until the time of services at 11 am with Rev. John Moll officiating. Prayer service 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, the family is looking to support Dick's passion and hobby.
