Peter Dufek Obituary

Peter Joseph Dufek 66, of Algoma passed away April 13, 2023, at home with his family and dog Ella by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.

Peter was born April 27, 1956, to Raymond and Helen (Dellis) Dufek, the youngest of five children. Peter learned at a young age what a strong work ethic was. He worked on the Henry and Carol Ebert Farm early on. After graduation from Algoma High School in 1974, he started his shipbuilding career in Sturgeon Bay at Bay Shipbuilding. During lean years at the shipyard, he continued to find work at Hamachek Machine in Kewaunee and Kornely Orchard in Casco. Retired in 2017, after 44 years of service with Bay Shipbuilding. Peter was an avid outdoorsman from hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. He enjoyed watching his daughter’s sporting events from grade school through high school and then later enjoyed his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was proud to take his oldest grandson deer hunting and his youngest grandson turkey hunting. Later in life he decided to try his hand at wine making, known as Sneaky Pete’s Wine.

Peter married the love of his life, Patricia (Luedtke) Dufek November 26, 1976, during the hunting season. He and his wife loved deer hunting and hunted together for the last
35 years.

Peter is survived by his wife Patty, and two daughters. Shelly (Josh) Treml and children Sami and Jacob, and Rachael (Ross) Melohn and children Connor Buhr, Mason and Riley Melohn. Two God children Jacob Luedtke & Georgia Luedtke. Brother Roy (Mary Rae) Dufek, sisters Pearl Kostka, Ruth Challe, sister-in-law Cindy (Bob) Tenor, brothers-in-law Tim (Connie) Luedtke and Bill (Sondra)Luedtke & numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Raymond & Helen, sister Gladys (Bob) Nething, brother-in-law Darrell Challe, mother and father-in-law Bonnie & Leonard Luedtke, and two brothers-in-law Leonard Luedtke Jr. & Thomas Luedtke.
