Paul Koenig

Paul George Koenig, 74, Algoma, died Sunday, Nov 13, 2011 at the Algoma Long Term Care Unit with his family all around him. He was born Nov. 30, 1936 in Black Creek, Kewaunee County to George and Mayme (Kulhanek) Koenig. Paul graduated from the Algoma High School in 1954 and worked two years at the US Plywood in Algoma. Paul married LeVerle Zimmerman on Sept. 8, 1956 in Algoma. The couple purchased Paul's family farm and ran that from 1956 to 1965. Paul and LeVerle then ran Koenig's Bar from 1965 until the present. While running the bar Paul also had a painting business called Paul's Decorators which he ran until about 1996. He was a past member of the Algoma Lions Club, Knights of Columbus with a Fourth Degree Status and was past Supervisor for the Town of Ahnapee. Paul cherished the time he spent with his family. He also loved watching the birds and squirrels and listening to Polkas and he never passed up the opportunity to buy a 'Birthday Drink' for his customers. Paul is survived by his wife of 55 years LeVerle, his three surviving children, Paula ( Dan) Presslein, Paul (Lisa) Koenig and Denise Koenig all of Algoma; four grandchildren, Matt Bair, Kewaunee; David (Rachel) Presslein, North Carolina; Jeffrey Presslein (fiancee Shelby Swiggum), US Army Fort Carson, Colorado; and Danielle Koenig, Algoma; one sister Joyce (Wagner) Klaubauf, Sturgeon Bay; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Germaine Entringer, Herbert Zimmerman, Myra Michaletz and Ethel Zimmerman; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter Stephanie, his parents, one brother Allen Koenig and brothers-in-law Roger Wagner and Richard Klaubauf, Father and Mother-in-law Harvey (Mary) Zimmerman, brothers-in-law Jerome and Harvey Jr. Zimmerman, Donald Entringer and Norman Michaletz and one sister-in-law Donna Zimmerman Family and friends may call at the SCHINDERLE FUNERAL HOME, Algoma from 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011 and after 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Anthony Birdsall officiating. Prayer service at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastoral Minister Kathy Zeman. Burial in the church cemetery after the Mass. The family wants to thank St. Vincent's Oncology Department, Dr. Rob Anderson, and the Algoma Long Term Care Unit for all the care and kindness given to Paul during his stay there you are truly Guardian Angels.
