Mildred A. Gunnlaugsson, 95, Algoma, went to be with her Lord on Monday Nov. 17, 2014 from the Ministry Door County Hospital. She was born April 12, 1919 in the Town of Clay banks to Alvin and Amanda (Viste) Johnson.She attended the Carnot Grade School and graduated from the Algoma High School. She attended the DK Normal School and got her teaching degree. She taught at the Lucke School on Washington Island where she met her future husband Clifford Gunnlaugsson. They got married on Sept. 16, 1941 in Waukegan, IL. They made their home in Algoma where Mildred worked for the Algoma School District as a cook in the kitchen for about 15 years. After she retired they moved to Washington Island from 1981 to 1988. They came back to Algoma, but still spent time on the island. Mildred did some substitute teaching at the Woodside school for a short time.Mildred is a lifetime member of the Tanum Forest Lutheran Church, a member of the churches Ladies Aid, was active in the churches Bible Studies and was a Sunday School Teacher. Mildred enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, reading and quilting. Mildred is survived by her six children Irene Cornils, Sturgeon Bay; Steve (Judy) Gunnlaugsson, New Richmond, WI; Bonnie (Ronnie) Kostka, Luxemburg; Mark (Karla) Gunnlaugsson, Green Bay; Randy (Jane) Gunnlaugsson, Anthem, AZ; and Holly (Larry) Baumann, Algoma; 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; one sister Hazel Ellison, Sturgeon Bay; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clifford, one granddaughter Shelly, son-in-law Paul Cornils, two sisters and one brother.Family and friends may call at the SCHINDERLE FUNERAL HOME, Algoma, from 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2014 and after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Tanum Forest Ev. Lutheran Church, County Trunk OO, Sturgeon Bay until the time of services at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gary Stangland officiating. Burial in the Forest Lutheran Cemetery.
