Maynard Blahnik Obituary

Maynard Gilbert Blahnik passed from this earth at home in Kewaunee surrounded by those who loved him on Friday, November 29th, 2024. He was born May 6th, 1940, to Jacob & Henrietta (Krueger) Blahnik.

Maynard grew up on the family farm helping in its day-to-day operations. He later joined the Army, serving in California prior to being sent to Germany, where he helped guard the building of the Berlin Wall. He was honorably discharged in 1962, with a rank of Private First Class.  Maynard was a member of the American Legion of Kewaunee.  He married Mary Jo Blaha on November 8th, 1969, and they were together for 55 years.

He was a foreman in the welding and pipefitting trades and a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 400. This job took him many places from Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay to Disney World during its construction and the Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant.

He was a deer hunter and also caught many trout and salmon off the Kewaunee pier. He was very active, walking/biking at least 12 miles each day. He kept a large garden and enjoyed working with his hands. There was nothing Maynard couldn't build or fix. Maynard's faith and prayer life were always important to him, and he supported the church community in various ways throughout his life. He was very hard working, generous, and devoted to his family. He enjoyed visiting with friends over a cup of coffee at the Harbor Express and visiting with others at the Kewaunee Fitness Center and the Village Kitchen.

He is survived by wife Mary Jo, daughter Melanie (fiancé Pete Schommer) of Minneapolis, MN, son Jesse (Margaret) of Manitowoc, WI, granddaughter Lila, brother Bob, sisters-in-law Beverly, Joanne, & Sue, and nieces & nephews. He was godfather to Liz Blahnik & Denise Koenig. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Howard (Delores), Leo (Helen), Harold "Jim", Jacob "Pete", Vincent "Windy", Larry, Donald, sisters Gert and Mert (Tom) Mattice, sister-in-law Judi Blahnik, and numerous loveable dogs throughout his life.

Matthew Colle at 7 PM.  Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11AM on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Casco, with Father Daniel Schuster officiating. There will be no visitation at church prior to the Mass.   Everyone is welcome. Entombment at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum at Nicolet Memorial Gardens in the Town of Scott.

A very grateful thank you to Unity Hospice for helping us bring Maynard home for his final days.  Also, a great thank you to daughter-in-law Margaret, also with Unity, without her constant care, we never would've gotten through this.
