Marvin Schiesser Obituary

Marvin Henry Schiesser, 90, Algoma, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Algoma Long Term Care Unit. He was born October 14, 1920 in Kodan, the son of the late Fred and Frieda (Stuebs) Schiesser. Marvin worked on his parents farm in Kodan until age 21, when he joined the US Army in September 1942. He served faithfully as Army Sergeant, 78th Lightening Division, in Germany during the Second World War. He was in the first infantry battalion to cross the Rhine River during the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart as a result of being wounded and hospitalized twice while service. He also received the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Rifleman's Badge, Good Conduct Medal and three Battle Stars. After his wartime service, he was honorably discharged in January 1946. Marvin returned to Kodan to work on his parent's farm and then married Marie Chike on May 28, 1947, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Algoma, and recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Marvin was employed at the Algoma Hardwoods for 35 years until he retired in 1983. He was a member of the Algoma American Legion for 65 years. In his younger days, Marvin enjoyed playing baseball and loved to watch all sports games. he was a big fan of the New York Giants and Wisconsin Badgers. He and Marie liked to travel, especially Florida during the winter months. Marvin is survived by his wife Marie and their five children: Robert ( Carolyn) Thoreau, Milwaukee; Patricia (Reb) Przybelski, Green Bay; Randal (Marian) Schiesser, LaCrosse; Scott Schiesser, Wisconsin Rapids; and Lori (Thomas) Wilquet, Green Bay; seven grandchildren, Allie Schiesser, CO.; Sarah Schiesser, Minneapolis, MN; Meghan (Jeff) Jacquet, Ithaca, NY; Emily (Ben) Bowman, Minneapolis, MN; Kayla, Eric and Jamie Schiesser all of Wisconsin Rapids; one great grandchild Phoenix Jacquet. Marvin is further survived by one brother Elmer(Helen) Schiesser, Algoma; brothers and sisters-in-law Raymond (Marlene) Chike, Sturgeon Bay; Ellie (Dallas) Miller, Green Bay; and Donald (Carol) Chike, Kenosha and many cousins nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Arvilla (Harold) Harman, and his in-laws John and Evelyn, and Evelyn (Wautlet) Chike. Friends may call at St. Paul's Lutheran Church from 9 - 11 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2011 until the time of services at 11 a.m. with Rev. Roy Beyer officiating Entombment at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Nelson and all the staff at the Parkview Manor Nursing Home and Algoma Long Term Care. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Marvin's name with donations going to Disabled American Veterans.
