Marie Jeselyn Schiesser

Marie Jeselyn Schiesser, 89, a long time resident of Algoma, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 10, at Unity Hospice Care in De Pere, WI, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Algoma, the daughter of the late John and Evelyn (Wautlet) Chike. Marie married Marvin Schiesser on May 28, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Algoma. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2011. They raised five children and celebrated 64 years together.A loving wife and mother, Marie worked at the Algoma Hardwoods for 23 years; was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 60+ years; and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Rosary Society, working at many funerals and as usher at church services. She was active in the Algoma Hospital Auxiliary, managing the gift shop for ten years and helping with bingo. In their younger years, Marie and Marvin enjoyed winter trips to Florida and traveling throughout the states. In her later years Marie enjoyed gardening, Wednesday bowling league, playing cards, watching Green Bay Packer and Brewer games, bus trips to the casino with her friends, and two very special Las Vegas trips with her son, Scott.Marie is survived by her children: Robert (Carolyn) Thoreau, Milwaukee; Patricia (Reb) Przybelski, Green Bay; Randal (Marian) Schiesser, LaCrosse; Scott Schiesser, Wisconsin Rapids; and Lori (Thomas) Wilquet, Green Bay. In addition, she is survived by seven grandchildren: Meghan (Jeff) Jacquet, Emily (Ben) Bowman, Allie Schiesser, Sarah Schiesser, Kayla, Eric, and Jamie Schiesser, and two great grandchildren, Phoenix and August Jacquet. Marie is further survived by two brothers Raymond (Marlene) Chike, Sturgeon Bay; Donald (Carol) Chike, Kenosha; and a sister Ellie (Dallas) Miller, Green Bay; a brother-in-law Elmer Schiesser, Algoma; and many nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, her parents, in-laws Fred and Fredia (Stepes) Schiesser, brother-in law Harold Harmann, and sister-in-laws Arvilla Harmann and Helen Schiesser.Friends may call at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 118 Church Street, Algoma, from 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 14, until time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. with Fr. Ron Colombo and Deacon Chuck Agnew officiating. Entombment at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum, Green Bay will be at a later date.
