LaVerne (Neuzil) Berg, 89, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at the Waterfall Health of Algoma. She was born on the family farm in Rio Creek, WI on February 6, 1934 to Frank and Emma (Obry) Neuzil. LaVerne graduated from the Casco High School and started working at Plumbers Woodworking in Algoma. She met and then married Hervy Berg on July 7, 1956. Having children, she was a stay-at-home mother until her youngest son started school and then started working at the Alaskan Supper Club, she then took on a job at Emerson Electric in Sturgeon Bay until she retired. LaVerne was a good wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, God Mother and friend.
LaVerne is survived by her son Randy (Cyndi) Berg, Algoma, daughter Jeanene Raynier, Algoma, son Brian (Melissa) Berg, Algoma, and son Blaine (Vernita) Berg, San Marcos, Texas; 13 grandchildren, Dan Lukes, Mike Lukes, Wava (Scott) Zirbel, Heidi (James) Rehbein, Heather Raynier, Jamie Raynier, Nathaniel (fiancée Radmila) Berg, Dakota (fiancée Faith) Berg, Jordan Collins, Aloura (Carlos) Ruiz, Vaughn (Kylee) Berg, Jarek Berg, Zakery Berg; 12 great grandchildren, Noah and Amya Lukes, Olivia and Kiptyn Zirbel, Bryer and Eleanor Rehbein, Donovan and Owen Sidavong, Ivy and Noah Collins, Armelle Ruiz, Shia Berg, many special God-children, nieces and nephews.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband Hervy, son-in-law Jeff Raynier, granddaughter Leila Berg, brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Helen Neuzil, Roy and Lorraine Neuzil, Harvey and Mildred Neuzil, sisters and brothers-in-law, Gladys and Ralph Schneider, Mildred and Marvin Borchardt and Erma and Ervin Villers. LaVerne was further preceded in death by in-laws, Chester and Lillian Tishacek, Harold and Betty Berg and Raymond and Marie Berg.
LaVerne was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Rankin/Algoma. In her younger years she taught Sunday School and also joined the Ladies Aid and was a member even though her residence was at the Algoma Long Term Care.
Friends may gather at the Schinderle Funeral Home, Algoma, on Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 4 PM - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM and continuing on Monday July 31 st St. John's Lutheran Church, Rankin, from 9:00 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Christopher Jackson officiating. Burial in the church cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Door County Memorial Hospital and especially the staff at the Waterfall Health of Algoma, formerly the Algoma Long Term Care. A special note of gratitude to Nancy Vandervest for being LaVerne's beautician and keeping her looking great.
