James (Keith) Martin, 71, Algoma, died unexpectedly Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012 at his home. He was born October 7, 1940 in Bridgeport, Conn. to Lloyd and Victoria (Grabowski) Martin. As a young man his family moved to Southern Illinois. After high School Keith entered the US Air Force and served his country four years. After his discharge he attended college on the GI Bill and received his masters degree in Counseling and another masters degree in Special Education. Keith taught special education in the public Illinois school district for 30 years. Keith married Barbara Lifto November 21, 1984 in Geneva, Ill. After Keith retired from teaching the couple moved to Algoma. Keith became a member of the Algoma Lions Club, the American Legion and the Masons, He is survived by his wife Barbara, one son Jon (Tammy) Lifto, Elgin, Ill; two daughters Johanna Lifto-Hooks, Algoma and Treva (Scott) Nebel. Pingree Grove, Ill; six grandchildren, Brandon, Abigail, Jacob, Alyssa, Emily and Ryan; two sisters Gloria (Gary) Cooper and Joan Griffin all of Ill; one brother Jack(Jean) Martin, Ind.; six nieces and nephews. Keith was preceded in death by his parents. Private family services will take place at a leter date.
