Gilbert Fett Obituary

Gilbert John Fett, 79, Algoma, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Green Bay.

He was born in Algoma on February 9, 1943, to the late Gilbert and Mary (Bendick) Fett.

Gilbert graduated from Algoma High School where he played football and basketball. After graduation he continued his education at Door Kewaunee Teacher's College and finished his degree at UW Oshkosh. Gilbert enjoyed teaching elementary school for 39 years starting out in rural schools and finishing his career at Southern Door School District in 2002. Former students often recall him teaching them how to play Sheepshead.

On August 7, 1981 Gilbert married Bonnie Kerbs at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Algoma. They started their family three years later with the birth of their son, Nathan.

Gilbert loved hunting on his 20 acres in the Black Ash. Muscles cars were another love of his.  He enjoyed playing cards with the guys and trying is luck with the lottery. He would often be seen riding around town and stopping to talk to friends. He taught his son bird identification early on and has now passed this on to his grandsons.

Gilbert's greatest joy was talking via video with his grandsons, who lovingly called him Papa.

Gilbert is survived by his wife Bonnie; son Nathan (Courtney), Snohomish WA, and their children Xander and Declan; sister Elizabeth (Thomas) Seidl, Algoma; brother Paul Fett, Algoma; sister-in-law Barbara (Ken) Fordham, Georgia; brother-in-law Robert (Marilyn) Kerbs; Arizona; nephew Ron (Chris) Seidl, Kewaunee and their children John and Nick. Other nieces and nephews Brian (Jenny) Kearney; David Kearney; Colleen Caldwell and Jason (Ladonna) Kerbs.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert; mother, Mary; brother, John; mother-in- law, Rita Kerbs.

Gilbert’s wishes were to only have a private family service.
