Georgia Ann Cross

Georgia A. Cross, 77, Algoma, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Bellin Hospital with her family by her side. She was born March 8, 1938 in Detroit, Mich. to James and Irene (Penoyer) Gardner. As a young girl her family moved to Cheboygan, Mich.Georgia met Edward Cross who was in the Coast Guard and they were married in Cheboygan on July 6, 1957. Georgia attended the Cheboygan Normal School and received her teaching degree. She was always proud of having taught grade school in a one room school house in Cheboygan County. After Ed's discharge from the Coast Guard they lived in many different places, before settling in Algoma in 1973. After raising her five the children she worked at a number of places as a sales clerk in the retail business in the Algoma area. Georgia cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and her two great grandchildren. She was an avid reader,enjoyed watching her TV games shows, going to the casino's and always enjoyed a good laugh. She was a member of St. Mary Parish, was on the Board for Community Options Program and was on a bowling league and also was an instructor.Georgia is survived by her five children Eddie Jr. (Marcia) Cross, Algoma; Cindy (Dale) Podnar, Dyckesville; James (Sheryl) Cross, Oxford, Mich.; Shelly Bacon (special friend Jerry Rupiper), Algoma; and Robert (Jenny) Cross, Holly, Mich.; 13 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two brothers, one sister, two brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward Sr., one sister and one brother.Friends may call at the SCHINDERLE FUNERAL HOME, Algoma from 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday March 26, 2015 and after 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church until the Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jim Dillenberg and Deacon Chuck Agnew. Prayer service 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Kathy Zeman, Pastoral Minister.
