George Miller

George F. Miler, 90.Algoma, passed away peacefully Saturday evening May 7, 2011 at Bay Road Place surrounded by family.He was born Nov. 9, 1920 in Park Falls, WI.He was the son of the late George F. Miller and Cathrine Sitko.He graduated from Park Falls High School in 1937 and attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison obtaining a degree in Agricultural education.World War II broke out and he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942, becoming a Lt. gunnery officer. After the war he entered law school at Marquette University and married Mary E. Gorman of Milwaukee in November of 1946. After graduation from law school, he and Mary settled in Algoma where they raised their 5 sons and he practiced law for over 45 years at the firm of Miller, Pies, Blazkovec& Evans. His career encompassed many community and civic activities including: Shanty Days Honoree, Lion's International, Chamber of Commerce, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, VFW, Kewaunee County Historical society emeritus director.In addition he server two terms as Kewaunee County District Attorney.He also served as chairman of the board of Community State Bank. He is survived by five sons; Tom J. Miller (Mary Dee Miller), Milwaukee, Gerald F. Miller (Siouxzy Murphy (Maples, FL), James J. Miller (Brussels), Michael J. Miller (Fond du Lac), John H. Miller (Milwaukee), step children: Ralph H. Perry, Sissy (Bruce) Heidmann, Cheryl Perry; grandchildren: Maureen (Anthony) Lopresti, Anne Miller, Edward Miller; step grandchildren: Adam (Anne) Carron, Meaghan Carron, Christopher (Michelle) Heidmann, Matthew Perry, Ben Perry,and his sister: Dorothy Wolf, Sister in Law: Rev.Mary Ann Miller, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary E. Gorman in 1983, Virginia Perry Miller, stepdaughters: Gina Carron and Margaret Perry, and brother Emil Miller. In lieu of flower, memorials may be sent to St. Mary's Parish, Algoma, and/or Kewaunee County Historical Society.Family and friends may sign the online guest book at www.schinderle.com. Friends may call at Schinderle Funeral Home, Algoma, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Wednesday, May 11th, with the prayer service at 7:00pm. and also on Thursday, May 12th, after 10am at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Algoma, immediately followed by the funeral at 11:00am.Burial will be at the church cemetary with full militery rights.
