Esther Emily (Walter) Urban, 89, was called home to be with the Lord on April 11,2012 at her daughter's home with family by her side. Born July 31, 1922 in the Town of Pierce, Wl to George and Lydia (Wenz) Walter. Esther graduated from Algoma High School in 1940 and Door Kewaunee Normal School in 1942. She then taught at the Riverside School for 3 years. Between school summer vacations she worked Lidral's Hardware Store in the office, Wheeler's Restaurant as a waitress and at the Algoma Plywood and Veneer Co. in the plant and office. She married Alferd Urban September 15,1945, at George Field Chapel, Lawrenceville, lL where they lived until World War Il was over. They returned to Algoma and started a mink ranch. Esther did volunteer work for the Algoma Hospital Auxiliary and worked in the hospital gift shop, St. Paul's Ladies Aid where she was Vice President and Treasurer, the Women's Club where she served as President and Vice President; LTCU Medical Center Auxiliary where she served as President, Vice President and Treasurer. She was a member of the Golden Age Club playing cards. On September 15, 1995, Alferd and Esther celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends. They spent many wonderful years together traveling, fishing and playing cards. Esther enjoyed gardening, embroidery, knitting, crocheting and, most important were family gatherings. Survived by one daughter, Karen (Don) Krueger of Green Bay and two sons, Dr. Ken (Lynne) Urban of Brussels and Steve (Sue) Urban of Green Bay; 5 grandchildren: Todd Krueger and Shelly (Mike) Anderson of Algoma, Shane (Molly) Urban and Ryan (Autumn) Urban of Oshkosh, and John Urban of Green Bay. 6 great grand children: Mia, Ashlyn and Kara Anderson of Algoma, Brekken Urban and Rijko and Kai Urban of Oshkosh. Preceded in death by husband Alferd on August 21,2001; twin daughters, Jeanie and Janie; parents, George and Lydia Walter; 2 sister-in-laws, Johanna Chars and Ruby Srnka; and 2 brother-in-laws, Herbert Chars and Eugene Srnka. Family and friends may gather at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 406 4th Street, Algoma, from 1 p.m., Sunday April 15, 2012 until the time of service at 3 p.m. with Rev. Tom Moldenhauer officiating.
