Esther Mraz, 95, died Friday Oct. 24, 2014 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Green Bay. She was born April 3, 1919 in Rosiere, WI. Door County to John Baplist Charles and Emily (Wautlet) Charles. Esther had an extremely hard childhood, her father died when she was six years old and then her mother died at nine years old leaving nine children to raise themselves. Wallace at 22 had the responsibility of keeping them all together and he did. Mom always said that she could identify with a 'Cinderella' life was so hard they were impoverished. Mom said the saddest day of her life was when her sister Blanche left to get married. She held the household together and taught mom all that a mother would have taught her. Know she only had two choices in life to be happy or sad. She chose happy and made the most wonderful mother in the world. No matter how tough things got we could always go to mom, she understood. Esther had many friends and enjoyed her weekly card games, picking many of them up in her car until age 94. She was a great cook and having been taught by Grandma Anne Mraz, she made exquisite Bohemian bakery and breads and oh what Belgian pies she made!! Mom worked hard on the farm and was always busy like the 'Energizer Bunny'. She'd bake various kinds of cookies and put six in each bag for the residents at the nursing home. Each resident like a special kind, so mom would try to accommodate them. She said 'those old people rally like that when you visit them'this at 90 years old. I guess no body ever told her she was old. She wouldn't have believed it anyway.Esther is survived by her eight children, Jim (Valerie) Mraz, Don (Carol) Mraz, Ken (Lynn) Mraz, Dianne (Jan) Koebke, Sue (Jim) Harris, Linda (David) Bice, Rick (Debra) Mraz, Marc (Lisa) Mraz and sister-in-law Mary Jan (Leonard) Charles; 22 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard John Mraz, brothers Wallace (Clarisa) Charles, George Charles, Harris (Francis) Charles, Willard (Florence) Charles, Vincent (Millie) Charles, Leonard Charles, and sister Myrtle (Peter) VanHealst, Blanche (Wallace) Gilson, grandchild Chris Harris and great grandchild Max Skibinski.Family and friends may call at the SCHINDERLE FUNERAL HOME, Algoma from 4 - 8 p.m. Monday Oct. 27, 2014 and after 9:30 am, Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Algoma with the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am with Rev.
