Douglas (Doug) E. Bitzan, passed away peacefully at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, WI on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at the age of 66. He was the son of Earl and Violet Bitzan born on January 4, 1958, in Algoma, WI.
Doug grew up on the family farm before graduating from Algoma High School and going to work at Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay, WI. Upon marriage and having children, Doug transitioned to Olsonite Corporation in Algoma, WI, with a short stint running what is now known as the Algoma Pizza Bowl. He worked many years before becoming self-employed logging and ultimately purchasing and running the family sawmill.
Doug grew up and made lifelong friends along the lake shore and beyond. In his younger years, Doug was known to instigate a fun evening out with friends, while always remembering his family obligations the next day. Doug enjoyed self-employment and the opportunity to use his trade to help others with their business and home projects. He thanks his many customers for their years of loyalty and support.
While not working, Doug enjoyed his many years of bowling and pool league(s), hunting, logging, and Sunday afternoon football games.
Doug is survived by his sons Lucas Bitzan, Minneapolis, MN and Derek Bitzan, Algoma, WI. He is also survived by Connie Bitzan, longtime wife and mother of his children. Doug was preceded in death by many aunts and uncles, longtime friends and family, and his parents.
