Clarice (Dionne) Feld-Andre

The last chapter was written and the book was closed when Clarice Marie Dionne Feld-Andre died Tuesday morning, June 14, 2011. Clarice, the last surviving member of the Joesph J. Jr. and Mary Bruchez Dionne family, was born at Lena, WI, on March 18, 1917. The family moved to Stanley to operate a hotel in the mid-1920's, relocating to a farm in Kolberg in Door County a few years later. Clarice attended schools in Lena, Stanley and Kolberg. After graduating from Sturgeon Bay high school, Clarice graduated from Door-Kewaunee Co. Normal School and Holy Family College. She also attended UW-Oshkosh and Milwaukee State Teachers' College, now UW-Milwaukee. Clarice's passion for reading and her love of learning was demonstrated in her 36-year teaching career, and in the hundreds and hundreds of students at Tornado School and Roosevelt and East Maplewood State Graded schools in Door County, and at Garfield, Kodan, Casco Graded and Algoma Public Schools. She also served as principal of Casco Graded School. Clarice married Maynard K. Feld on June 8, 1940. The couple's four children each possess that same love of learning, a gift which Clarice passed to her seven grandchildren, all of whom are university graduates. Clarice instilled being of service in her children. She and Maynard were constant role models. In addition to teaching, serving the church and community, and belonging to a number of professional and social organizations, Clarice cared for her family, gardened, sewed and found time for family travel and socialization while doing Maynard's clerical work at Algoma Dowel Co. from 1959 until his retirement in 1975. Following her retirement from the Algoma Public Schools, Clarice served as a substitute. She and Maynard traveled abroad extensively and wintered in Arizona and in Texas where Clarice continued to winter following Maynard's death in 1987. Clarice was welcomed into the Andre family when she married Warren on December 1, 1989. For 17 of the 20 years that followed their marriage, Clarice and Warren made their home in Algoma and Gulf Shores, Alabama. Surviving are Clarice's children, Virginia and Norm Johnson and Greg; Judy and Dr. Len Maurer, Nathan and Amelia Royko-Maurer and Gigi, and Deborah and Don Rambadt; Dianne and David E. Younk, David A. and Tracey LeReau Younk, Chase, Riley and Kennedy. and Melissa and Shane Sperle, Brady and Seaver; Mark and Kathleen Fellows Feld and Chad, and Carrie and Chuck Mahlik and Mason. Also surviving are Warren's children Darlene Andre, David and Nancy Andre, Dawn and Jim Holdorf, Diane and Al DeCleen, and Dennis and Linda Andre, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Clarice is also survived by Ray and Ruth Krueger, the most supportive, best friends and relatives in the world, and special nieces and nephews Mary Gutman, Charles Dionne, Jan Dart, Jim Feld, Joyce Wilke and Joe Feld and numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends. Preceding Clarice in death were her husbands Maynard Feld and Warren Andre, siblings and spouses Ernest and Lucille Patenaud Dionne, Odile and Frank Pavlik, Jule and Blanche Jay Dionne, Teresa and Fred Roessler, Clarence Dionne, Agnes Dionne, Evelyn and Arnold Starr, Charles and Louise Brey Dionne, George and Gen Paul Dionne, Marcel and AugustaBrey Dionne, Elaine and Robert Merkel, and Dotty and George Brey. Maynard's parents Adolph J. and Agnes Haucke Feld and Maynard's brother and sister-in-law LeRoy and Esther Serrahn Feld also preceded her in death. Clarice's family thanks Suzanne Simon, Marvel Junion and Patti, Ida, Mona, John and all of Unity Hospice, and Comfort Keepers for their care and support. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Mary's Rosary Society, the endowment fund at Algoma Public Library or Unity Hospice. Friends may call at Schinderle Funeral Home, Algoma, from 4 to 8 on Friday, June 17 and after 10 AM Saturday June 18 at St. Mary's Church until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM celebrated by Rev. Anthony Birdsall. Michael Gutman will conduct a prayer service at the funeral home at 7 PM Friday.. Burial will follow in the Feld family plot at Evergreen Cemetery.
